Generously funded by Marc and Lynne Benioff, the Benioff Ocean Initiative at UC Santa Barbara seeks to tangibly improve the health of the oceans by harnessing the power of scientists, innovators, and communities to fix solvable problems facing marine ecosystems.

As part of the Blue Horizons course “Issues in Marine Conservation,” students will engage with scientists from the Benioff Ocean Initiative to learn about ocean health and critically explore the stories behind ocean issues that have been submitted through the Benioff Ocean Initiative’s crowdsourcing ocean problem-solving campaign.

The Benioff Ocean Initiative Environmental Media Fellowship supports students in the Blue Horizons program and empowers the next generation of spokespeople for ocean issues. UCSB students who have been admitted to the Blue Horizons program and have unmet financial need may apply for a Benioff Ocean Initiative Environmental Media Fellowship by completing this form.
