  • Metropolitan Metro 4 Theatre
  • Screening Format: Sony 2K digital projection (96 minutes)
  • With Nicholas Bruckman, Bradley Whitford, Amanda Roddy, and Tracey Corder

The 2021 documentary Not Going Quietly documents the life and work of activist Ady Barkan. A rising star in progressive politics and a new father, 32-year-old Ady Barkan’s life was upended when he was diagnosed with ALS. But after a confrontation with powerful Senator Jeff Flake on an airplane went viral, catapulting him to national fame, Ady and a motley crew of activists ignited a once-in-a-generation political movement called “Be a Hero.” Together, they barnstormed across the country and empowered people to confront their elected officials with emotional, personal stories to demand healthcare justice.

This special screening of Not Going Quietly is presented as part of a memorial celebration for Ady Barkan; to learn more about the weekend’s events and the work of the Be a Hero movement, please visit this page.  After the screening, director Nicholas Bruckman, Emmy award-winning actor and executive producer Bradley Whitford, producer Amanda Roddy, and activist Tracey Corder will join moderator Mona Damluji (Film and Media Studies, UCSB) for a postscreening discussion. The screening will take place at the Metro 4 Theater at 618 State Street in Santa Barbara.
