The Coastal Media Project 2025 Student Film Premiere

The Carsey-Wolf Center proudly presents the premiere of the 2025 Coastal Media Project student films. The Coastal Media Project is a nine-week intensive environmental media production and documentary studies program. Working in teams, students from a wide range of backgrounds collaborate to produce short films that tell vital and timely stories about the coastal environment.

Sonic Shores
When rockets shake the shore, the ocean listens. This short documentary explores how the roar of space exploration travels beneath the waves, startling seals and other marine wildlife—and asks what happens when human ambition collides with the rhythms of the wild.

Coyote Coast
Coyote Coast is a short documentary that investigates the ecological and social implications of coyotes utilizing the beaches of Santa Barbara.

Hydra on the Horizon
Off the coast of California, a community haunted by decades of oil spills rises once more as Sable Offshore threatens to restart operations on a corroded pipeline in the Santa Barbara Channel. Through the voices of activists, fishermen, and longtime residents, Hydra on the Horizon traces the legacy of disaster, exposing the scars of the past and following a community in its urgent fight to break the cycle before it’s too late.

Society of Fearless Grandmothers
With wisdom, courage, and grief, a group of activist grandmothers reflects on humanity’s fractured relationship with the environment. Spreading ideals, breaking down stereotypes, and forging community, they fight in the name of a better future.
