Magic Lantern: Machines, Toys, and Master Tropes is a research project and academic conference held in Missillac, France from June 1-4 2025 with leading humanities scholars from Europe and the US. We approach the magic lantern as a historical media device within the terms of an archaeology of global media that addresses origins and futures of a narrative machine. The Carsey-Wolf Center supported a presentation by two renowned European magic lanternists of their respective tri-unial magic lantern and phantasmagoria shows as part of the academic conference.
