The Carsey-Wolf Center is pleased to offer a special opportunity for students with media production experience who would like to put their skills to work in an internship with a local nonprofit organization that focuses on education, environmental issues, or social justice. Students who are selected by the Center for this program will be given the option to interview with one or more of the Center’s nonprofit partners for an unpaid internship focused on media production. Candidates who are accepted by the nonprofit partners to serve as interns will receive $2500 in scholarship funds, half payable to the intern’s BARC account at the start of the internship and the other half after completing a final evaluation at the end of the internship period.

Interns will work for an average of 10 hours per week for 10 weeks, but the schedule for each individual internship will be determined by the needs of the student and the organization.

Applicants should submit the following materials by Thursday, May 22 for primary consideration. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis following this deadline.

Applications should be submitted using this form and will include:

  • a portfolio illustrating your work in media production
  • a 1-2 page cover letter explaining your interest in participating in this program
  • a single page resume detailing your relevant experience and skills
  • a letter of recommendation from a faculty member (this may be submitted with your application or sent directly to Emily Zinn by the faculty member: erzinn@ucsb.edu)

Applicants will be interviewed and applications adjudicated by members of the Carsey-Wolf Center staff.  Recipients will be featured on the Carsey-Wolf Center website, and will be required to submit a final report detailing their internship experience. Funds will be deposited directly into scholarship recipients’ BARC accounts, which will remain active for a year following graduation from UCSB. Recipients should consult with the Financial Aid office to determine any potential impacts on their aid packages before funds are deposited. Please note that this program does not support internships with media production companies. If you are looking for support for a production internship, you may want to consider applying to the Carsey-Wolf Center’s internship scholarship program.

Please contact Carsey-Wolf Center associate director Emily Zinn at erzinn@ucsb.edu with any questions about this program.
