Melody Jue is an Associate Professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an affiliate of Film & Media Studies. Her research focuses on the oceans & the environmental humanities, media studies, American literature, science fiction, science & technology studies, and the relation between theory and practice. Her book Wild Blue Media: Thinking Through Seawater (Duke University Press, February 2020) destabilizes terrestrial-based ways of knowing in media theory and literature, drawing on practices of submersion that include fieldwork as a scuba diver. She is also co-editor (with Rafico Ruiz) of the recently published edited collection Saturation: An Elemental Politics (Duke University Press, 2021). Her articles have appeared in journals including Grey Room, Configurations, Women’s Studies Quarterly, Animations, and Humanities Circle, and the collections Scale in Literature & Culture, An Ecotopian Lexicon, and Green Planets: Ecology and Science Fiction.
