Each event in the Pollock Theater features a screening of a film or television episode and a moderated discussion with one or more invited guests. Examples of recent Pollock Theater events can be found on this page. The Carsey-Wolf Center and Pollock Theater staff provide support for event planning, including the coordination of media and permissions, promotions and publicity, theater operations, and production details for a limited number of events each quarter that are carefully selected by our programming committee.

Please note that the Pollock Theater may not be rented for non-Carsey-Wolf Center events. If you are looking for a rental facility on campus, please contact the UCen, the Loma Pelona Center, or the Mosher Alumni House.

If you would like to propose an event for consideration by our programming team, please complete this form. We invite you to consult with us at any stage of the proposal submission process. Please contact Carsey-Wolf Center Associate Director Emily Zinn with any questions about our programming.

Please complete this form to propose an event. The form will ask you to address the following questions:

  • What is the film or other media you propose to screen? (please indicate the screening format if known)
  • Which guest or guests would you propose to invite? Have you had any direct contact with them?
  • Who will moderate the event? We ask that all events have one moderator.
  • How will the discussion be framed? What is the context for the screening?
  • Who is the target audience for the event (students, UCSB campus community, Goleta and Santa Barbara community)? Are there particular UCSB courses that would be associated with the event, either as a required component of the class or as extra credit? Please note that while the Carsey-Wolf Center can offer some promotional support for partner events (basic graphic design, organic social media posts, email marketing, flyer preparation) it is important that campus partners take a leading role in promoting their events to target communities.
  • Do you have a specific date you would propose for the event? Is the date flexible? (Our events primarily take place at 7:00 PM on Tuesdays or Thursdays.)
  • Some of our events are recorded and edited by our student staff for presentation on UCTV.  Are you interested in having this event recorded if we are able to do so?
  • What co-sponsorship resources would you offer in support of the event?

Proposals will be reviewed by the Carsey-Wolf Center’s programming committee. You will receive a response from a member of our programming team within two weeks.

Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis, and our limited programming slots may be filled several months in advance. We ask that proposals be submitted early in order to allow time to secure exhibition rights, create promotional materials, and arrange for staffing, among other logistical issues. The final dates for submitting a proposal for a particular quarter are:

Fall Quarter: 1st Monday in July

Winter Quarter: 1st Monday in November

Spring Quarter: 1st Monday in February

All other proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis after these preliminary deadlines.
