The Carsey-Wolf Center’s Media Internship Program offers a selective opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate UCSB students who want to develop practical applications of the knowledge they have gained in their studies. Our interns come from any discipline at UCSB that stresses creative and critical thinking, media literacy and policy, collaboration and coordination, organization and integration, the craft of writing, or the art of storytelling.

Interns work 80-100 hours (8-10 hours per week) during a quarter term in media organizations in Los Angeles or Santa Barbara. Los Angeles internships are one day per week; Santa Barbara internships are usually two half-days (mornings or afternoons) or one full day per week. Summer internships can be arranged for multiple days per week.  Los Angeles interns receive a $200 gas stipend for the quarter and must arrange their own transportation to the internship.

Our interns have achieved a reputation as enthusiastic workers who bring strong communication and critical thinking skills to any task they are assigned. Our students have found placements in a variety of media fields: agencies, distribution, exhibition, journalism, production, and promotion. Host organizations include small independent and major production companies, documentary producers, news entities, environmental public relations, and talent agencies, including the following:
